Little League in District 4
We are very fortunate to have quality Little League programs in District 4 for the children in our
communities. The following leagues
individual leagues, click on "District 4 Leagues" in the left-hand menu. You may download the boundary map for each league to determine which league you should register your child in.
Each league has a unique boundary and is responsible under Little League chartering regulations to accept players only from within those boundaries. We provide the following explanation of how Little League boundaries work.
Dear Parent,
Little League Baseball and Softball is the world’s largest youth organization. The basis of its league structure is boundaries for each chartered league. That simply means that each league draws its boundary on a map and is required to register only players that live WITHIN those boundaries.
To many parents that seems silly – this is “just baseball.” But as in all areas of life, there are rules and regulations we must abide by. We cannot register our children for school outside our own county. Our 14 year old children cannot get a driver’s license just because they are more mature than others. The list goes on.
Please respect the rights of each league to “claim” the players who live within their boundaries. Every league works hard to provide a quality baseball and softball program for the youth of their communities. They deserve to retain the players within their boundaries.
Jumping ship and asking to play in another league creates problems for everyone. No one in either the “home” league or the league in which you want to register has the authority to grant you permission to play “out of boundary.” As District Administrator, I do not have that authority. The ONLY entity that can grant a player permission to play “out of boundary” is the Charter Committee in Williamsport, PA. It becomes a long paperwork trail and each request involves the following people: the “home” league, the league you want to play in, the District Administrator, the Regional office and the Charter Committee – the request must pass through 5 hands. There are no guarantees the request will be approved.
You are probably now saying, I don’t care if it is approved, I just want my child to play ball. If a league accepts a player that is not approved through this process, it puts their charter status with Little League in jeopardy – for violating the rules. If your child is playing without approval and is injured – there is no insurance coverage – and should the injury result in a lawsuit, the league is liable. The least of the problems of playing without approval is the ill-feelings created between leagues when players are accepted into a program “illegally.”
We understand there can be extenuating circumstances and a request to play “out of boundaries” is the process that must be followed. Little League can rule in one of 3 ways: 1) deny the request; 2) approve the request for “regular season play only” meaning the child is not eligible for tournament play; 3) full eligibility which includes tournament play.
Please think long and hard about your “needs” and your “wants.” There is a difference. Should you feel that your family has “extenuating circumstances” please make your request.
Sincerely,
Linda North, District Administrator |
